Your referral code and links

Read this to understand how referral attribution works — how to share your link, and how candidates get connected to your account.

Your referral link is how candidates get connected to your account. Here's how attribution works and how to share the link.

What your referral link is

Every partner account has a unique referral code. It's embedded in the links you copy from the portal, in the form:

https://sme.careers/apply?referral=<your-code>

When someone opens that link and signs up, their application is attributed to your agency. From then on, they appear in your Referred candidates list and their progress counts toward your earnings.

You never need to type the code by hand. The portal builds the links for you.

Two kinds of links

  • General referral link: sends the candidate to the application page with your code attached, and they pick whichever role suits them. Copy it from the Referred candidates page (the Share referral link button) or from the Open positions page (Copy general referral link).
  • Job-specific link: the same link with a specific role pre-selected (...&jobId=<job>). Copy it from any job card on the Open positions page using its Copy link button. Use these when you're recruiting for a particular role.

A "Copied" confirmation appears when the link is on your clipboard. Paste it into your outreach messages, job boards, or wherever you talk to candidates.

How attribution works

  • Attribution happens when the candidate signs up and applies through your link, so make sure candidates use the link rather than navigating to the site on their own.
  • The referral is recorded at application time, so later changes (the job closing, for example) don't remove the attribution.
  • Referred candidates show up on your Referred candidates page, where you can track their stage in the hiring pipeline.

Tips for sharing

  • Prefer job-specific links when you know which role fits the candidate. It saves them a step and improves conversion.

Send the link, not a screenshot

Send the link directly to the candidate rather than posting a screenshot, since the code lives in the URL.

Candidate signed up without your link?

Contact SME support. Don't ask them to create a duplicate account.

What happens next

Once candidates start using your links, you can track their progress in the portal on the Tracking your referrals page. Their milestones drive your earnings, explained in Earnings and payouts.
