Onboarding Overview

Read this once you've been invited to onboard — it explains the two steps that turn a selected candidate into an active member of the expert network.

What onboarding is

When you've passed screening and been selected, you're invited to onboard. You'll get an email, and a banner appears on your SME Careers dashboard showing your onboarding steps. Onboarding is where you get set up to be paid and to communicate with your project teams.

The two steps

Both steps are completed from Settings → Onboarding:

  1. Sign your contractor agreement through Deel. This is how you're paid, and it includes an identity verification (KYC) step. See Setting up Deel.
  2. Connect your Discord account. Discord is where project communication happens. Linking it lets us add you to the right servers and channels automatically. See Connect your Discord account.

Both steps are required

You can do these in either order, but you'll need both finished before you can start paid work.

The Onboarding tab also has a built-in instructions and FAQ section — expand it any time for step-by-step guidance and answers to common questions without leaving the page.

Being onboarded vs. being placed

Completing onboarding makes you eligible for project matching. It does not guarantee an immediate placement. Project availability depends on client demand, so there's no fixed timeline. When a suitable project comes up, you'll be notified by email and see an invitation on your Projects page.

While you wait, keep your profile accurate and your notifications on. Matching runs off your profile, and invitations arrive by email.

What happens next

Once your Deel contract is active, your identity is verified, and your Discord account is linked, you're an active member of the network. The next thing you'll usually receive is a project invitation. See Project invitations.
