Completing your profile

Read this after you've submitted your application, to make sure your profile is complete — a complete profile is matched against more projects and moves through screening faster.

Where to find your settings

Open Settings from your account menu. Your settings are organised into tabs:

TabWhat's there
ProfileYour basic details: name, bio, photo, links
SkillsThe skills you can be matched on
ExperienceYour work history
PreferencesNotification and other preferences
AccountEmail, password, security, and account management
OnboardingRemaining onboarding steps, such as your CV and connected accounts

Why completeness matters

Project teams find experts by searching profiles: by skills, languages, education, country, and rate. Every field you leave empty is a match you might miss. Keep these accurate in particular:

  • Skills: add all relevant skills, and be specific.
  • Languages: the languages you can work in, with your level.
  • Education and experience: complete entries with dates.

Your hourly rate

Your hourly rate is determined by our team based on several factors — your experience, skills, and the roles you match — so there's no "expected rate" for you to enter. In the Hourly Rate section of your settings you'll see the rate proposed for you once it's been set. Until then, you'll see a message that our team is currently reviewing your profile.

Your CV

Your CV is part of your profile. If you upload a new CV, we automatically read it and use it to enrich your profile. Always review the result and correct anything that was extracted incorrectly.

Connecting Discord

Project communication happens on Discord, so the Onboarding tab lets you link your Discord account. Linking is done through Discord's own sign-in (OAuth): you authorise SME Careers, and we connect your Discord identity to your profile and add you to the community server. Most projects need a linked Discord account before you can start work, so link it during onboarding.

Notification preferences

In the Preferences tab you can switch email notifications on or off for:

  • New job matches
  • Interview reminders
  • Application updates
  • Email digests
📘

Keep key notifications on

While you have active applications, keep Interview reminders and Application updates on so you don't miss a deadline or a result.

What happens next

With a complete profile, browse the open jobs and apply to the ones that match your expertise. Reviewers see your profile details during screening, so keep them current as your situation changes.
