Choosing your path

Read this when you reach the "What role will you play?" page and need to decide between joining as a subject matter expert or a network referrer.

The two paths

When you start an application, you're asked "What role will you play?" and shown two options:

Use your domain expertise to train and evaluate frontier AI models and get paid.

Choose this if you want to do the work yourself: applying your professional knowledge to train and evaluate AI models on paid projects. This path takes you through account creation (if you haven't signed up yet) and then to the data trainer application form, where you upload your CV and tell us about your background.

This is the right choice for most people: doctors, lawyers, engineers, linguists, researchers, and other professionals who want flexible, paid AI training work.

Can I do both?

The two paths use separate account types. If you want to work as an expert and refer people, note that experts also have a built-in referral programme in their own account. Once you're signed in, share your personal referral code from the Referrals page, no partner account needed.

Applying for a specific job

If you arrived via a link to a specific job, your selection is remembered. After you sign up and choose the subject matter expert path, you'll be taken to the application with that job already associated.

What happens next

  • Chose subject matter expert? Continue to Applying as a data trainer.
  • Chose Network Referrer? You'll be guided through partner sign-up and onboarding in the partner portal.
