Connect your Discord account

We use Discord as the main collaboration platform for all projects. Connecting your Discord account to SME Careers lets us automatically add you to our server and to the right channels for any project you're matched with — without you needing to copy IDs or join servers manually.

The whole process takes about a minute.

Before you start

You'll need a Discord account to complete this step. If you don't already have one, that's fine — you can create one as part of the connection flow. There's nothing to install in advance; the connection works in your browser.

Step 1: Start the connection from SME Careers

  1. Sign in to SME Careers and go to Settings → Onboarding.
  2. Click Join Discord server.

You'll be redirected to Discord's sign-in page in a new window.

Step 2: Sign in to Discord (or create an account)

What you see next depends on whether you already have a Discord account.

If you already have a Discord account:

  1. Enter your email or phone number and password.
  2. Click Log In.

If you don't have a Discord account yet:

  1. Click Register at the bottom of the login form.
  2. Fill in your email, display name, username, password, and date of birth.
  3. Click Create Account.

Please use the same email address as you used for your application to SME Careers.

Step 3: Authorize SME Careers

Discord will show you a permissions screen asking you to authorize SME Careers to access your account. We request the following:

  • Access to your username, avatar, and banner — so we can identify you in our server.
  • Access to your email address — so we can match your Discord account to your SME Careers profile.
  • Knowledge of which servers you're in.
  • Permission to add you to servers — so we can place you in the right channels automatically when you're matched with a project.

Scroll through the permissions and click Authorize.

Step 4: Wait for the redirect

After you authorize, Discord will hand you off to a brief verification screen while we finalize the connection. You'll be redirected back to your SME Careers onboarding tab automatically within a few seconds.

If the redirect doesn't happen on its own, click Back to Settings on the verification screen.

What happens next

Once you're back on the onboarding tab, your Discord account is connected. From here on:

  • You'll be automatically added to our main Discord server.
  • When you're matched with a project, we'll add you to the relevant project channels — no action needed from you.

You can move on to the next onboarding step.
