Connect your Discord account

SME Careers uses Discord for project communication. Linking your Discord account lets us add you to the right servers and channels automatically when you join a project. This is one of the two onboarding steps, alongside Deel.

Before you start

You need a Discord account. You can create one during this process if you don't have one.
Use the same email address you used to apply to SME Careers. This lets us match your Discord account to your profile.
There's no software to install. It all happens in your browser and takes about a minute.

Linking from SME Careers

Go to Settings → Onboarding.
In the Discord section, choose how you want to connect:

Select Join Discord server. You'll be sent to Discord to log in (or register), then asked to authorize access.

Authorizing access (Discord sign-in)

If you connect by signing in, Discord shows an authorization screen asking to share your username and avatar, your email, your existing server memberships, and permission to add you to servers. Review it and select Authorize. A confirmation screen appears briefly and you're returned to SME Careers.

After you connect

You're added to the main SME Careers Discord server automatically.
When you're matched to a project, you're placed into that project's channels automatically. You don't need to do anything.
Your Discord connection shows as verified in Settings → Onboarding.

If it doesn't work

Wrong email: if you registered Discord with a different email, that's fine. The link is what matters, so just make sure the connection completes and shows as verified.
Didn't get added to a channel: channel access is granted based on your project stage; allow a little time after joining a project. If it's still missing, see Working in production or contact support.

If you're verifying manually and your Discord User ID is rejected, the message tells you what to fix:

"This looks like your Discord username, not your Discord user ID": you entered your username. You need the numeric User ID instead, so follow the steps on the settings page to copy it.
"This is our Discord server's ID, not your personal Discord user ID": you copied the server's ID by mistake. Copy your own User ID instead.
"This doesn't look like a valid Discord user ID": your ID should be a number with 17 to 19 digits, so check for missing or extra characters.
"Please join the server": your ID is valid, but you aren't in the SME Careers server yet. Join the server first, then verify.

What happens next

With Discord linked and your Deel contract in place, you've finished onboarding and are eligible for project matching. See Project invitations.
