Browsing and applying to jobs
Read this when you're looking for open roles on SME Careers and want to know what happens when you apply.
Finding jobs
The Jobs page lists all currently open roles. You don't need an account to browse — anyone can view the listings.
- Use the search box ("Search roles, skills...") to filter by role name or skill.
- Each listing shows the role title and key details such as employment type, location type, and the pay rate where one is specified (some listings show "Rate not specified").
Open a job to see its full description, key responsibilities, and requirements before applying.
Applying to a job
When you apply to a job:
- If you're not signed in yet, you'll be taken through sign-up (or sign-in) first, and your chosen job stays attached to your application.
- If you haven't completed the data trainer application form yet, you'll complete that first — see Applying as a data trainer.
- Once you have a profile, applying to a job creates an application, which you can track on your Applications page.
Most roles use an AI interview as the first assessment step. After applying, your application shows the status Interview pending with a Take Interview button. You take the interview online, at a time that suits you, using your interview link.
A few things to know
- One application per job. You can apply to multiple different jobs, but only once to each.
- Interview attempts are limited. Each job allows a limited number of interview attempts (typically 3). See Interview results and retakes.
- Jobs can close. If a job is paused or closed after you apply, you'll see "This job is no longer available" and can't take further action on it. Your profile stays active for other roles.
Tracking your applications
The Applications page shows every job you've applied to, its current status, and the next action available to you (such as taking or retaking the interview). See Understanding your application status for what each status means.
What happens next
Take the AI interview for your application. It's the main assessment step, and your application can't progress until it's done.
